What is the best application timing for Strada?

Strada is most effective if applied to weeds at the 2-3 leaf stage or smaller.  Apply Strada herbicide within 10 days of permanent flood establishment to obtain maximum control of labeled weeds and prevent weed reemergence.

What herbicides can Strada be used with?

Strada can be tank mixed or applied sequentially with commonly used herbicides registered for use in rice. A compatibility or jar test should be performed before tank mixing any herbicides. Click below to see how Strada complements popular herbicides.  Strada is not recommended for tank mixture with the graminicides RiceStar, Clincher or Whip as control of grasses may be diminished due to antagonism.  If weed size and environmental conditions are favorable, excellent control may be obtained but performance is not guaranteed and all responsibility or liability is assumed by the user.

In what chemistry class is the active ingredient of Strada?

The active ingredient in Strada, Orthosulfamuron, is a member of the sulfonylurea herbicides and is an acetolactate synthase (ALS/AHAS) inhibitor.

What sort of testing has been performed on this product?

Orthosulfamuron has been extensively tested for six years by independent and university researchers in the U.S. and worldwide.

How does Strada fare in terms of crop safety?

In university and contract field trials, Strada has shown excellent crop safety.  Strada surpasses other ALS rice herbicides with respect to crop safety when root and shoot injury measurements were made.

At what rates can Strada be applied?

Strada is applied at a rate of 1.7 to 2.1 ounces per acre, depending on weed size and pressure.

Is Strada OK to use in all rice varieties?  What about Clearfield rice?

Yes, Strada can be applied to all rice varieties including Clearfield.

How does Strada fit in a weed resistance management program?

Weed resistance can potentially develop with any herbicide. Strada and other pesticides should be incorporated into an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program. To delay or avoid resistance, any or all of the following practices are recommended:

  1. Always apply the herbicide at recommended label rates
  2. Avoid following an ALS-inhibiting herbicide application with another herbicide application of the same mode of action unless in tank mixture with a product with a different mode of action
  3. The use of ALS herbicides in consecutive years should be done in conjunction with herbicides containing other modes of action
  4. Monitor escaped weeds and control them before they can produce seed
  5. Contact and follow local extension and/or consultant recommendations relative to resistance management
